| Niagara Falls Heritage Foundation Government of Canada Local Initiatives Grant AK 2403-9 1974- 1975 ; Research by George Seibel ; Thomas McMicking a UEL who originally came from Scotland in 1775 is credited with having grown the first apples in this vicinity. His son told how he had brought seeds from the Catskills and having been advised that they would germinate better if steeped in milk overnight, he had them dropped in a cup which he promptly placed on top of a cupboard. It was found by the cat which promptly consumed the seeds with the milk - excerpted from The Mark of Honour by Hazel C Matthews, University of Toronto Press, 1965, page 130 |
