Title  2922 St Paul Ave - James Oswald House Creator  Mottola, Ron Notes  Mr James Oswald built this unusual house in 1831. Some of the rooms have elaborate ceiling mouldings and a large marble fireplace graces the living room. The iron fence in foreground of image was imported from England. Mr Oswald and his brother owned a Brewery which was located just north of the CNR tracks on Highway #8 ; Date  1977. Many important meetings, balls, etc., were held there. It is now a private residence ; Date  April, 1977. The land for the church was donated in 1837 by John McMicking. In 1847 he deeded the site next to it (north) for 5 shillings to be used for Stamford School. Currently (2004) a private residence ; Date  1977. Title  3111 St Paul Ave - Stamford Prebyterian Church Creator  Mottola, Ron Notes  This was the first Presbyterian church to be founded in Upper Canada. The first structre was built in 1791 and stood on the site for about 80 years. The present building (2004) was erected on the original foundation in 1872 ; Date  1977.
