Description  Francis J. Petrie was for many years the City Historian of Niagara Falls, as well as the author of a regular newspaper column in the Niagara Falls Review.
After his death many of his photographs, negatives, slides, and postcards were donated to the Library.

Fred Helie Collection (258 records)

Description  Fred Helie worked on the Sir Adam Beck II Power Plant construction project during the mid-1950s. During that time he took numerous photographs during all phases of construction. The photos were donated to the library by his family after his death.

Description  For many years the James Photograph Studio was a landmark of downtown Niagara Falls, passed on from father to son. After Ken James' retirement, the building was sold. Library staff discovered that over 40 years of negatives were about to be destroyed, and managed to salvage them. Of the estimated 200,000 negatives, only a small proportion has been processed.

Niagara Falls Heritage Foundation Collection (906 records)

Description  The Niagara Falls Heritage Foundation was founded in the mid 1970s by George and Olive Seibel. The object of this foundation was to obtain copyright-free images, art works, and other materials about Niagara Falls, and to produce books and audio-visual material about the falls. The material acquired by the Foundation was housed in the Niagara Falls Public Library. When the Foundation was disbanded In the mid-1990s ownership of this material was given to the Library.

Niagara Falls Public Library Digital Collections (7627 records)

Description  As part of its mandate to help preserve the heritage of the City of Niagara Falls, the library regularly photographs different aspects of the city and its natural surroundings, using digital technology since the late 1990s. In addition, some residents wish to share their images but retain the originals. These are scanned into the library's databases and then returned to the owner. Both of these types of images are in the Digital Collections.
