Petrie was for many years the City Historian of Niagara Falls, as well as the author of a regular newspaper column in the Niagara Falls Review. During that time he took numerous photographs during all phases of construction. After Ken James' retirement, the building was sold. Library staff discovered that over 40 years of negatives were about to be destroyed, and managed to salvage them.
