Niagara Falls Public Library

Renewing, Reserving & Returning

Hoping for a little more time with that book you haven’t finished yet? An item can be renewed if not on reserve for another customer and your account is in good standing.

Renewing

When can items borrowed may be renewed?

  • In person at any library location
  • By calling any library location
  • By logging onto your account through the Library's online catalogue with your card number and PIN

Reserves

When can an item be reserved?

  • When it’s something that has recently been ordered for the collection
  • When it’s checked out
  • When it’s available to borrow, but not at the location you typically visit

Any library item can be reserved, with the exception of magazines and Lucky Day Loans. You can arrange to pick up your reserves at the library location most convenient for you. You can have up to 65 reserves on your card at one time.

To reserve an item, you must have a valid library card in good standing.

How can items can be reserved?

  • In person at any library location
  • By calling any library location
  • By logging onto your account through the Library's online catalogue with your card number and PIN

Customers will be notified by phone or email when reserves are available for pick-up. To sign up for email notification, please speak with staff or sign in to your account and add your email address to your personal information in your Borrower Profile.

If you’re going out of town, you can make your reserves inactive so that you’re not contacted for a pick-up while you’re away. Library staff at any location can assist with this process in person or by phone.

Returning Your Items

Borrowed items may be returned to any of the four library locations. Drop boxes are available at all locations if you’re not able to bring an item back during our open hours. Please note: eReaders must be returned in person to a staff member at the location where you originally borrowed it.
