You can hit the right note at the Niagara Falls library

The Niagara Falls Public Library (NFPL) is proud to announce that we will be lending musical instruments!

Library cardholders will be able to borrow guitars, ukuleles, violins, a banjo, a mandolin, a cello, a Cajon, a steel tongue drum, a lyre harp, a rhythm set, and even an accordion. In addition to the instruments available, there will be musical accessories like music stands, an amp, and a metronome.

Plus, we’ve added a whole bunch of sheet music and scores to our collection for you to borrow. There’s music for almost all of our instruments. It ranges from introductory levels to advanced. So, no matter if you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned musician, there will be music for you to check out, play, and enjoy. There’s also a wide variety of music to choose from, whether you’re into classical, pop, rock, folk, blues, country, or reggae.

The musical instruments, accessories, and scores will only be available to borrow and return at the Victoria Avenue location of the NFPL.

Cardholders will be able to take the instruments home for three weeks. If there are no holds on an instrument while it’s checked out, it can be renewed up to two times. That means you can play it for up to nine weeks!

Most sources agree it takes roughly 26 months to learn to play an instrument. So, if you’re able to keep the instrument at home with you and practice for nine weeks, you’ll be over one third of the way to knowing how to play something. How exciting is that? Plus, it’s all for free!

To help, NFPL has compiled a guide that lists a number of great free resources for learning how to play each instrument in our collection. Many music books we offer also provide valuable instructional information for the budding musician. The guide will be available as a PDF on our website or on paper for you to take home.

This new musical collection will be a natural extension of the Niagara Falls Public Library’s support of music education and we hope we can foster music literacy and bring the joy of music to the community.
