Family Day fun awaits at the Niagara Falls Public Library

Can you remember the last time you got the whole family together for a nice photo? Visit our Victoria Avenue branch on Monday, Feb. 20 between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for our Portrait Studio drop-in program. Bring family, friends or just your fabulous self and get ready to strike a pose! Each group that comes to the session will receive an edited digital copy of their photos for free. Photos will be emailed within two weeks.

We will also be running a Board Game Cafe that same day at both the Victoria Avenue and MacBain Community Centre branches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Get your game face on with the library’s board game collection. Also check out our life size board game collection with Checkers, Connect Four, Bowling and Jenga.

There is still space in our Jam Squad program! We’ve partnered with CBC Music and are offering workshops on how to create your own music using GarageBand. Register at nfpl.info/jam. These sessions run on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Our new Rosberg Gallery Exhibit in March will showcase Niagara Falls native, Toby Sue Carrel. Join us on Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m. for her Artist Talk. Toby Sue Carrel will trace her artistic history starting with her childhood in Niagara Falls to the opening of her studio and school, The Riverdale Hive Artists Collective. Hear about her summers at Arts Camp to painting in her small apartment during the Pandemic. Toby is a member of the Rosberg Family and has had a lifelong dream of exhibiting her artwork in the Rosberg Gallery. Come by earlier for her gallery opening and reception. We are very excited to showcase her art for the month of March.

Join readers from across Niagara as the region's libraries host the inaugural One Book One Niagara event. We’re encouraging everyone to pick up Ivan Coyote’s most recent book, "Care Of", and join us at Brock University on March 29 to hear them speak. This book is a giant love letter to the idea of human connection and the power of truly listening to each other. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Sean O'Sullivan Theatre at Brock University. This is a free event but registration is required here: nfpl.info/OBONRegister. We’re offering a special book club on Feb. 22 for any readers who would like to discuss "Care Of" in a small group setting. Register here: nfpl.info/CareOf.
