Kendall loves her life in small town Cryer’s Cross, Montana, but she also longs for something more. She knows her chance of going to school in New York is small, but she's not the type to give up easily, even though it will mean leaving Nico, the world's number one, sweetest boyfriend, behind.
Kendall has OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). She counts, she checks things six times, she makes deals with herself, “I will count to 100 and then I will stop if I see a red bird with a worm in its mouth" kind of deals. She arrives at school early every single morning just so she can make sure the curtains are hanging right, the desks are arranged just so and the dent in the trashcan is facing the right way. Kendall hides her OCD well but it is this very same compulsion that makes her the one to notice that the graffiti on the desk is changing. Clearly, something sinister is going on, her friends Nico and Tiffany have gone missing and all she can hear is numbers repeating through her brain.…
Cryer's Cross is rocked by the unspeakable tragedy of the missing teens and Kendall shoves her dream aside in order to focus on just one goal… find her missing friends. Even though it means spending time with the one boy she shouldn't get close to... the one boy who makes her question everything she feels for Nico.
Determined to help and to stay true to the boy she's always loved, Kendall keeps up the search--and stumbles upon some frightening local history. She knows she can't stop digging, but Kendall is about to find out just how far the townspeople will go to keep their secrets buried.
Kendall is a different kind of heroine, she is just an ordinary girl who isn’t accomplished in everything, who does not care about owning the latest fashions or plays the piano at concert halls. She has real life problems as well as her OCD and it is those flaws that guide her through this downright creepy novel!
This is a mystery for any age. The social issues are relate-able and this is one you will enjoy talking with others about.
