The Hunger Games takes place in a post-apocalyptic America. Every year in the country of Panem each of the twelve provinces are required to send one male and one female to participate in the “Hunger Games”. The games unfortunately are a fight to the death! The participants (or tributes as they are called) receive training, are assessed by the game masters and then the fight begins. All of the games are televised and are required viewing for the entire nation. Twenty-four are forced to enter the game zone but only the winner survives

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are the tributes from District 12 for the 74th annual hunger games. Actually, it was Katniss’ sister Prim who’s name was drawn but she offers to go in her place knowing that her younger sister would never survive the ordeal.
