Click to view a larger image Rick Morocco had an exceptional Minor Hockey career in Niagara Falls. His natural athletic ability and playing skills resulted in many personal awards. He also led his team to an Ontario Minor Hockey Association Championship in 1973. In 1978, at the age of 15, Rick played Junior “B” Hockey in Fort Erie. That season the “Meteors” won the Niagara District Championship and Rick received the League’s Rookie of the Year award. In 1979, Rick played in the Provincial Jr. “A” Tier Two league, for the Aurora Tigers. That season he was offered a hockey scholarship to Boston University and was also selected fourteenth in the Ontario Hockey League draft. Rick had a very productive career in the O.H.L. which included playing with his hometown team - the Niagara Falls Flyers. After Junior, Rick went to York University and played for their hockey team that won three Ontario titles and a National Championship. While there, he won many individual awards which included Scoring Titles, MVP’s and All Star Selections. Rick played Professional Hockey in the Italian First Division League from 1987 to 1993. While there, he again enjoyed winning individual awards along with one championship season. Rick played for the Italian National Team in the World Championship Tournaments and also the Albertville France Winter Olympics. Upon retiring as a player, Rick coached hockey, for a while, before taking on many executive and administrative positions in Provincial and National Sports Organizations. His contributions at that level have let to numerous achievements which he will always cherish. |
