Thomas Earl Boyd was an important and integral part of this City's sports fraternity for the love of the sport, rather than for any personal gain.
Thomas was a hockey club owner and manager in the early days of the Victoria Avenue area. One of his teams won an intermediate title, and he later sponsored senior teams which included many hockey greats of that era, among them Babe Seibert.
Thomas Earl Boyd put forth a considerable amount of his own personal money into sports, especially hockey, and lost a great deal of it. He was of the old school, and to paraphrase an expression made famous by the late U. S. President John F. Kennedy "he never asked what sports could do for him, but rather what he could do for sports".
