Full size image of plaque Chirp played for the City's junior, intermediate and senior OHA teams. Chirp moved on to the eastern American hockey league where he played for Hershey in 1935 and then moved on to play for Great Britain in the Olympics. Great Britain went on to capture the gold medal, beating Canada for the first time in their history ; Canada's first loss ever in the Olympics and Chirp fired the winning goal. The British Team also went on to win the European and World Championships the same year. After the great season with the British National Team, Chirp played for the Richmond Hawks, in the Channel Cup competition. After returning from England Chirp played a few more years and then retired from the sport. Chirp went on to coaching various "Jr A" hockey clubs in the OHA such as the Sudbury Wolves and the St Catharines Blackhawks. From 1967-74 Chirp served as professional scout for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals of the NHL. |
