| Original held in the collection of Earl W Brydges Public Library, Niagara Falls, New York ; This view of the US terminus of the bridge shows two carriages waiting to go through the portal onto the bridge deck. The masonry structure at the left houses the cable anchor. The depth of the anchor pits below the surface of the ground was 18 feet and the length of the anchor chains was 30 feet, The anchors were set in solid rock on the Canadian side, and in masonry on the US side. The anchors had to hold the main cables each of which weighed 82 tons - George Seibel ; |
