Title  3011 Portage Rd - Whirlpool House - built by Andrew Rorback Creator  Mottola, Ron Description  slight damage to bottom left corner Notes  The house was built by Andrew Rorback before 1800 and it was one of the best known and popular inns in early Stamford. Many important meetings, balls, etc., were held there. It is now a private residence ; Date  April, 1977. The land for the church was donated in 1837 by John McMicking. In 1847 he deeded the site next to it (north) for 5 shillings to be used for Stamford School. The first structre was built in 1791 and stood on the site for about 80 years. The present building (2004) was erected on the original foundation in 1872 ; Date  1977.
