Literacy For Parents

Make sure your child has the best possible chance to succeed!

Learning starts at birth! Research shows that children learn the skills they need to read years before they start school. To ensure every child in Niagara Falls is given the best possible chance to succeed, the Niagara Falls Public Library provides trained staff, endless resources, and programming, we're making sure every child in Niagara Falls is ready to read.

"If every parent understood the huge educational benefits and intense happiness brought about by reading aloud to their children, and if every parent - and every adult caring for a child - read aloud a minimum of three stories a day to the children in their lives, we could probably wipe out illiteracy within a generation. What's to stop us?" - Mem Fox, Reading Magic.

These brochures developed for the "Every Child Ready to Read @ your library" programme are a project of the Public Library Association for Library Service to Children, divisions of the American Library Association.

You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer in order to download the materials. If you don't have it, visit Adobe to obtain your free version.

The American Library Association is currently updating the literary brochures. Check their website for updates
