      <description>&lt;p&gt;The Niagara Falls Public Library is pleased to again host free income tax preparation clinics for the benefit of low-income earners. Individuals must meet income guidelines to participate and must register in advance. All clinics will be held at the Victoria Avenue Library.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario program takes place on several Wednesday and Thursday evenings in February and March. To qualify, individuals without dependents must have a total household income of less than $20,000. Individuals with dependents must have a total household income below $30,000. If two or more individuals in one household are employed, the combined household income must not exceed the limits.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The community volunteer program sponsored by Canada Revenue Agency will be offered on March 5 and March 19 from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm. This program provides trained volunteers who give their time to complete simple returns. The volunteers are not employees of Canada Revenue, nor are they tax experts trained to do complex tax returns. Eligibility is limited to single individuals with annual income of under $25,000 and couples with a combined annual income of under $35,000. Interest income must be less than $1000. Only 2011 returns will be completed at the Canada Revenue clinic.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;a href="http://nfpl.info/horsmi" target="_blank" title="Reserve a title in our online catalogue"&gt;Award-winning Jamaican born Canadian author, Horane Smith, will bring his stories of the Underground Railroad and the Maroons in Nova Scotia, to the Niagara Falls Public Library, on February 7, at 7:00 p.m. to mark Black History Month.&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;He will read from his new novel Marooned in Nova Scotia – A Story of the Jamaican Maroons in Canada, which tells the story of one Maroon warrior’s quest to take his people back to Jamaica, after they were deported to Nova Scotia, in 1796. He will also be reading from Underground to Freedom, which chronicles the journey of one young American to take his family to the Promised Land, Canada, via the Underground Railroad.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Horane Smith is best known for his first novel Lover’s Leap: Based on the Jamaican Legend. Its sequel, Dawn at Lover’s Leap was a finalist in the USA Book News Best Book Awards for Historical Fiction. He has also written novels on piracy in the Caribbean, lynching in America, reggae music and tourism adventure.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;He is the first recipient of the BURLA Award for outstanding contribution to African Canadian and Caribbean Literature. He has also been recognized by the Jamaica Diaspora Foundation Canada for his outstanding contribution to Jamaican literature.
