Starting tomorrow both Community Centre Branch Library and the Victoria Avenue Library will open again on Sunday afternoons from 1 to 5pm. Sunday hours at both libraries will be from now until April 26 except for Dec.21, Dec. 28 and Easter Sunday April 12 when they will be closed. On average, people borrow more than one book every sixty seconds when the libraries are open on Sunday afternoons! Many people at the MacBain Community Centre enjoyed the Sunday openings especially during the swim time in the pool and other activities in the gym, meeting rooms, Skate Park and the new children’s park beside the building. Sunday is a popular time for the entire family to come together to the library. Hundreds of people borrow books, magazines, videotapes, DVDs, audiotapes, compact discs and even CD-ROMs. Some come to research personal, business and school subjects. Others enjoy reading out-of-town newspapers and current magazines. Many view the monthly exhibitions and displays throughout the library. Dozens of people will search the Internet using the public workstations. Children particularly love the early literacy workstation in the children's department. The microfilm reader-printers at the Victoria Avenue Library are usually fully occupied. Only basic reference and Internet assistance is available from our reduced Sunday staff. Please telephone the library during the week to set aside special materials, including local history materials, for your use on Sunday. Teenagers can earn some "Community Service Credits" by writing a review for us to use on the Teen Zone of the library’s website www.nflibrary.ca/Teen . You can write a review about any book in the Teen/Young Adult collection of the library, a favourite website that would be of interest to others or maybe a music CD that you are very fond of. Reviews should be 400 - 500 words in length and must be original; your review may be edited for publication. You will earn one hour of Community Service credit for each review. Drop your review off at any location of the Niagara Falls Public Library System marked "Attention The Webmaster" or you can email to teenzone@nflibrary.ca
