Starting August 1st join our online book discussion group found on our website www.nflibrary.ca which will feature one book to discuss for the month. August’s book is “Rollback” by Robert J. Sawyer. Andrew Porteus and Carrie Chiaramonte will moderate this forum. On a first come, first served basis, online participants can pick up a copy of the book in person at the Victoria Avenue Library to use over the month of the online discussion, but you don’t need a library copy to participate.. Adults are invited to join in person one of our seven popular book discussion groups. The groups meet for about an hour once a month from September to April at the Victoria Avenue Library, Chippawa Branch, Community Centre Branch and Stamford Centre Branch. There are both daytime and evening sessions offered. Pre-registration has started and these sessions usually fill-up quickly. Registration is $8 for the year and groups are limited to fifteen people. The book under discussion is provided by the library. You can register online, in person or by telephone. Some of the books to be discussed in our next session include: “Long way gone” by Ishmael Beah, “Rollback” by Robert Sawyer, “Prisoner of Tehran” by Marina Nemat and “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult. Why not start your own book discussion group? The library would be pleased to lend you free of charge a set of books which we have used in our previous programs. Authors represented include Margaret Atwood, Maeve Binchy, Alice Hoffman, John Irving, John Mortimer, Carol Shields and Ann Tyler. If needed you could also use a library meeting room free of charge. Niagara Falls Public Library offers book club sets to registered Niagara Falls users free of charge or to other public libraries within the Province of Ontario for $10 per book set borrowed. Borrowing is of course subject to availability. A list of books used in our programs can be found on the library website www.nflibrary.on by clicking on “For adults” and then “Book Clubs”. For more information, contact Monika Seymour at 905-356-8080 or Carrie Chiaramonte at 905-371-1200. Our free Summer Breezes Teen Book Club has dozens of readers who are 12 years of age and older. Prizes are drawn every Saturday at each of our four libraries. If you love reading books, check out some great teen titles.
