More than a thousand children are expected to once again join our two summer reading clubs which run from June 21 to Aug. 15. Registration starts today and continues all summer at our four libraries and the cost is only $2. Youngsters will be rewarded by strengthening their reading skills while school is out , enjoying some great books and attending an end of summer party for those who finish reading ten books. “Your Brain Under Construction: Boost It, Build It, Tune It Up” is the summer reading club is for children 6 years and older or those who are reading on their own. As you read through your books, you can build our giant brain. Children who complete the program will receive an invitation to the end of summer party on Aug. 21 when a private secret movie screening will be held that morning at Niagara Square Cinemas. The Read-To-Me Club program “Building With Books ” is for 3 to 6 year olds who are emerging readers. This is a special opportunity for parents to spend time reading with their young children. After each book is read, children will receive a puzzle piece. After reading ten books the child will have received enough pieces to complete a puzzle to take home in their tool box folder and receive an invitation to the end of summer party on Aug. 20 at the Victoria Avenue Library with comic juggler Craig Douglas. As always, small prize incentives are given after 2,5,8 and 10 books read. Also register for the four week preschool story time programs for three to six year olds called Learning With Books and the six week Toddler time programs for two year olds. They will be held at our four libraries starting June 24 and cost only $3. Registration for all children’s programs may be made in person at your nearest library, by phoning 905-356-4053 or online at the Kids Corner of the library website . Youngsters twelve and older can register for the new “Summer Breezes Teen Book Club” where they can enter a draw every Saturday at all four libraries to win a prize. Special thanks for funding to Alex Herlovitch’s Great Wall of China Marathon, Niagara Square, and McDonald’s Restaurants. All ages will enjoy the art exhibitions in the Rosberg Gallery in June by Mario Palombo; in July by Gary Crosby; and in August by the Niagara Falls Camera Club.
