Take a break from the heat and join us at the Chippawa Branch library on Tuesday August 7th at 6pm for our feature film “Accidental Husband” a romantic comedy starring Colin Firth, Uma Thurman and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Successful relationship expert and radio talk host Dr Emma Lloyd seems to have all her stars aligned, fame and fortune, impending book deal, loving relationship – and about to be married. Meanwhile New York firefighter Patrick Sullivan has no idea his seemingly idyllic life was about to go up in smoke – when his fiancée is the recipient of advice from the “expert” to break the engagement. The wounded party gets involved in a misguided prank to get back at the doctor. When the two meet, Emma is confronted with some new ideas and sparks fly. This film was originally released in England in 2008 and only released in North America as a DVD in 2012. The rating is PG.
Our Overdrive drop-in sessions continue this Saturday August 11th from 2-4 pm in the Reference department at the Victoria Avenue library. This is a first come service, no registration is required. Unfortunately the Kindle eReader is still not supported through the Overdrive service in Canada. This has to do with licensing and complicated rights management. Public libraries have little control in this.
Now in August the Rosberg Gallery will feature a display of paintings of scenes from the Battle of Queenston Heights from the Niagara Falls Heritage Foundation Collection. The library received funding from the federal government's 1812 Commemoration Fund to have the paintings framed and prepared for display. These paintings are meant to be shown in the community and are available to be loaned out to secure locations. Parts of the collection have already been requested and will be on display in other locations in southern Ontario this fall. Please contact the library for more information.
