Our Big Screen Tuesday feature for July 10th is "The Hunger Games" based on the first book of the bestselling ‘young adult’ trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The book was well acclaimed and won numerous awards in 2008 when it was originally published. The series, which includes ‘Catching Fire’ and ‘Mockingjay’ - has been enjoyed by adults and teens alike. Copies of all titles are available in various formats including books, Playaways and as downloadable Overdrive audio books. Set in a post-apocalyptic North America where life as we know it has disappeared to be replaced by Panem, an administration divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year in a live televised event, two young representatives between the ages of 12 and 18, from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games, a fight to the death which all citizens are mandated to watch. When her younger sister, Prim is selected, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her place for the latest match. She and her male counterpart Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives. Collins adapted the novel for film herself, and wrote the script. The 2012 film with Jennifer Lawrence in the role of Katniss, Josh Hutcherson in the role of Peeta, and Liam Hemsworth in the role of Gale did well at the box office. A sequel is due to be released in 2013. Show time is 7pm in the LaMarsh Room at the Victoria Avenue. It is rated 14A. Admission is free.

Summer Story times are underway at all locations beginning this week. This year we have added a new program “Tales for 1’s and 2’s” in addition to the Toddler Time for 2 year olds and the traditional Story time for 3-6 years old. There are some spaces still open, so call your local branch to check availability.

Tuesday July 10th the Chippawa Branch Library will be featuring the film “Over the Hedge” for the 2pm family film showing.
