School’s out, its vacation time – but there is no lack of things to do and explore at the library and it’s cool!
Summer reading club is underway at all locations. It’s geared to the elementary school age population and registration is on going all summer. In order to qualify for the fun, end of season entertainment – you just have to read and report on your 10 books.

Over the next two months the Rosberg Gallery will be showcasing some of the Library’s local history art collection as the start of our 1812 commemoration events. In the mid-1970s the Niagara Falls Heritage Foundation received federal grants to create copyright-free paintings of significant events in the history of Niagara Falls and area. In 2005 the Victoria Avenue branch of Scotiabank donated money to have these paintings electronically scanned and added to the Historic Niagara Digital Collections Art Database, where they can be seen today. Earlier this year, the library received a grant from the federal government's 1812 Commemoration Fund to have sixty of these paintings relating to the War of 1812 framed for display. In July the Rosberg Gallery will host the initial display of paintings of scenes from the Battle of Lundy's Lane, followed by scenes from the Battle of Queenston Heights in August. These paintings are meant to be shown in the community and are available to be loaned out to secure locations. Parts of the collection have already been requested and will be on display in two other locations in southern Ontario this fall.

We will be offering a series of “Chill out at Chippawa“ Tuesday afternoon family movies beginning July 3rd at 2pm. This week’s selection is “Dolphin Tale” – based on the true story of a young dolphin – “Winter” who loses it’s tail in a crab trap. Winter the dolphin actually stars as herself in the movie.

Saturday July 7th we are offering another 1 hour Overdrive workshop beginning at 10am in the LaMarsh Room. Here’s your opportunity to learn to use the library’s free download service – in time to search for, place a hold and download to your computer or portable device all your vacation eBooks or audio books. Please call to register@ 905-356-8080.

Niagara North Community Legal Assistance staff will be at the Victoria Avenue Library on July 9th for the monthly Free Legal clinic. This will be available from 1:30-4pm.

The library is closed today July 2nd in lieu of Canada Day.
