The Niagara Falls Horticultural Society will be hosting their 59th Annual Rose Show on Thursday June 21st in the LaMarsh Room at the Niagara Falls Public Library. Following the busy morning of setting up and judging, the doors open to the public at 4pm. through 8pm. A fresh feature this year is the “Let your imagination flower” colouring contest for children and youth – ages 4-14. Printed forms ready to colour are available at all NFPL libraries and may be dropped off to the library by June 20th. Other crayon, drawing, paint or paste collage works depicting “House & Garden” (approximately 8 ½ x 11) are acceptable. The winners will be named at the show.

The Box Office Chippawa movie on Tuesday June 19th is "Good Deeds". This 2012 romantic drama; written, directed and starring Tyler Perry , is the story of wealthy businessman Wesley Deeds who is jolted out of his scripted life when he meets Lindsey, a single mother who works on the cleaning crew in his office building. As he realizes he wants something more from his life – he is ready to make some dramatic changes. Others stars include Gabrielle Union, Thandie Newton and Phylicia Rashid. This is the 11th film Perry has directed in which he stars. Showtime is 6pm and the rating is PG.

We are happy to share the news that former Niagara Falls Public Library staffer, Bev Rodman has now published her 5th book. “Nightmare in the Everglades”, is an adventure thriller introducing Kate Chandler and a new set of characters not associated with Bev’s previous series of murder mysteries - all 4 of which are available and you may reserve them online. Bev says this book was great fun to write and has been enthusiastically received. She is taking the summer off before starting on her next book which is already written in her head! We hope to have Bev on hand in the Fall for a reading and book signing with her faithful fans.

Summer schedule hours at the library will begin the week of June 25th and will run over the next 10 weeks until Labour Day. Changes affect Victoria Avenue, Community Centre & Stamford Centre Branch, and result in earlier evening closings. Chippawa hours remain unchanged. Please be sure and check the website or call the library in advance to check. Drop boxes are still open at all locations to return materials when the library is closed.
