Boxes containing 38 library copies of the new J. R. Rowling book "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" were unpacked by staff this morning, quickly processed, and distributed to our four libraries where more than seventy people have placed reserves waiting their turn to borrow the instant bestseller.

Go to the catalogue on the library's website www.nfpl.library.on.ca, type the book's title, click on it, then click on reserve. Type your library card number and PIN number and indicate at which of the four libraries you wish to pick-up the book when it is available.

First telephone the library at 905-356-8080 or come in person to receive a PIN number. After you receive a random PIN number you can change it at any time to one you will remember readily. With it, you will also be able to see and update your personal information, check your reserves, material on loan, any amount due and your payment history.

If you would like to read books similar to Harry Potter, there are many other authors to choose from. We have listed more than a dozen on our website's catalogue. Click on Kids Catalogue, then Great Reading to find the "If You Love Harry Potter" authors.

All seven volumes of the "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis are a must-read as they present the adventures of children who are magically transported to Narnia, a place where animals talk, magic is common, and good battles evil.

Younger readers will enjoy all nineteen books in Lemony Snicket's "Series of Unfortunate Events" and Kate McMullan's "Dragon Slayers' Academy" series.

Borrow books by Diana Wynne Jones. When the daughter of the great Wizard Derk arrives for schooling at the Wizards' University, she encounters new friends, pirates, assassins, worry, sabotage, bloodshed, and magic misused in "Year of the Griffin".

Having long indulged himself in daydreams more exciting than his mundane life, a carpet merchant unexpectedly purchases a magic carpet and his life changes dramatically as his daydreams come true and dangerous adventures occur in "Castle in the Air".

In Cornelia Funke's "Dragon Rider", a silver dragon is joined by a brownie and an orphan boy in a quest to find a legendary valley, encountering friendly and unfriendly creatures along the way, and struggling to evade the relentless pursuit of an old enemy.

If you like Harry Potter, come and see the many exciting reads at any of our four libraries.
