The second Teen Night of the summer will be held on Friday August 3 from 7pm to 10pm at the Victoria Avenue Library.

The rock group "Marshall's Falling" will perform starting at 7pm and the group "inlimbo" will perform at 9pm.

An "Open Mic" will be held at 8pm where anyone is invited to read a poem or a story, play an instrument (as long as no setup is required), juggle, sing, do a comedy routine or anything similar. To perform at Open Mic, please contact in advance Andrew Porteus at 905-356-8080 or online.

Tickets are $2 in advance at any of the four libraries in Niagara Falls or $4 at the door with a limited number of tickets on a first come basis. Seventy-five tickets were purchased for the first Teen Night held last month.

The library has regular contact with the teens in our community. About 73% of our City's teens are registered library members & borrowers. Our library's presence on MySpace reaches over 1400 teens at http://www.myspace.com/nfpl.

We are pleased that the Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee includes on its website the Library's Teen Links at http://www.nfpl.library.on.ca/teenlinks.html.

The catalogue on the library website www.nfpl.library.on.ca has recommended books for teens and new additions listed.

We have continued to develop the books featured at the "Of Interest To Teens" display and the Graphic Novel Collection which are both shelved facing comfortable lounge chairs at the Victoria Avenue Library.

We promote annually the "Fresh Ink" creative writing competition for Niagara teens and started the new "Summer Breezes" Teen Book Club. Student art has been exhibited in the Rosberg Gallery. Staff have sent information to all high schools to promote our online research tools to students.

Staff welcome comments and suggestions to improve our services, programs and collections to the teenagers in our community. Anyone can also contact me at 905-356-8080 or online.

The four libraries will be closed on Aug. 6. Use the book return slots and visit anytime the library website to search the catalogue and databases, place reserves, loan renewals and much more.
