The movie featured this week for the November 24 Big Screen Tuesday is based on the generation defining event, “Woodstock”. There cannot be many who do not have some sense of the 3 days of peace, love and music in rural upstate New York in 1969, attended by the thousands of young people who came together to groove! This film is the story, adapting a memoir by Eliot Tiber, of how it came to be, as a young entrepreneur, trying to save his family’s motel business, offers space to the promoters, in order to generate some income. He also was responsible for introducing his neighbour with the 600 acre farm to the Woodstock Ventures group. Before long the townspeople are overwhelmed and their lives transformed forever by the experience. It has been called the small story behind the big story. Dimetri Martin and Eugene Levy star in this 14A rated film, directed by Ang Lee . Start time is 7pm in the LaMarsh Room and it’s free.
This upcoming week features a variety of holiday themed programs with crafts and story time activities for children of all ages. Programs are offered at all libraries, so please call the library or check the website , www.nflibrary.ca , for more details and registration information. Please note, registration is required. On Thursday evening, November 26, at 6:30, it’s the final Family story time of 2009. Why not join us, with the family for “Reindeer Games”, an hour filled with stories, songs, games, a craft and a short film? There is a maximum $2.00 registration fee per family for this activity. We are proud of the popular children’s programming we offer to our community at all of our libraries and we encourage all residents to take advantage of the early literacy experiences for their children at their public libraries. Our staff are all book lovers and readers – and what better way to instill the magic of reading to young children than being part of these wonderful programs.
There are once again, Holiday Open Houses planned at each of the Library branches, as the Christmas season approaches.
Beginning next weekend, November 28, at the Stamford Centre Branch and November 29, staff at Victoria Avenue Library will be welcoming patrons, with some refreshments and “sounds of the season”. More details to follow but everyone is invited.
