City Council has officially proclaimed Oct. 18-24, 2009 Public Library Week in Niagara Falls. The theme this year “Yours to Discover” - gives emphasis to the role the public library plays in encouraging one's sense of discovery and learning in our province. The provincial car licence plate is a natural symbol for the “discovery” enabled through literature, information and technology – all highlights of public library service. Each one of our 4 Niagara Falls libraries provides access to information highway through the Internet. Check-out our library’s popular website www.nflibrary.ca.

To celebrate we have put together a Scavenger Hunt ballot for each Library, to encourage all visitors to really get to know our libraries. Take a few moments to answer the questions and have a look around the facilities, perhaps “discover” something you did not know before about the services and programs available to all library patrons! The ballot is different for each library, so try your knowledge at each you visit. The Niagara Parks Commission has generously provided us with ticket vouchers to their attractions, for the draw winners. It’s a great way to “discover” the beauty of Niagara. We also have some CD ROMs of the “Images of a Century “. A separate draw will be made at each library, on Saturday October 24.

Canadian Library Month is also celebrated in October. A strong library system is the cornerstone of a strong community. It is important to recognize the important contribution which public libraries make to education, literacy and life-long learning in Ontario communities. Residents of Niagara Falls can be proud of their library, which has been a rising star over the last few years, keeping pace with the changing technologies and addressing the needs of our community.

We encourage every person to use the public library this month and throughout the year. Come in and discover what the Niagara Falls Public Library is all about!

On October 22 we are hosting a program with Niagara North Community Legal Assistance, on Landlord and Tenant matters. If you have had disputes with your landlord or tenants or have any questions about the law or your rights, join us for this question and answer session with a lawyer specialist. The program is at 7:30pm in the LaMarsh Room. Please call ahead to reserve your seat.

Sunday service resumes at the Victoria Avenue Library and the Community Centre Branch Library, Sunday October 18th. Hours will be from 1 pm - 5 pm.
