It is the final weekend of the Summer Reading Club and next week all the participants who have completed the program will be treated to the traditional summer end parties! Staff have had a busy time with all our young readers and we congratulate them all.

Several weeks ago, our “In House” book discussion groups were highlighted in this column. Let's talk about some of the other alternatives offered @NFPL for those who may wish to participate in a less formal book discussion. First, there is the Online Book Club, accessible through our website www.nflibrary.ca

The Online Book Club is open to anyone over the age of 14 who has access to a computer, and might prefer posting to the online book discussion forum about the books that they read, rather than in a face to face group. You can login at any time and add your thoughts or view and comment on what others have added. The forum is moderated by library staff. A variety of books will be discussed, from mystery to science-fiction, young people’s, special interest, and high literary content. To see a list of upcoming titles just go to the Library webpage and click through : For Adults: Books Clubs:Online Book Clubs: Register now. You may already have your own copy of the book under discussion, however the library has copies of each title discussed. Books are made available to borrow through the online club, for the 4 week period the title is being discussed. A new title is assigned for the beginning of each month, and library staff provide some background and resources along with each title.

As you are making plans for Fall; why not start your own book club? The library would be pleased to lend you free of charge a set of books which we have used in our previous programs. We offer book club sets  to registered Niagara Falls library users or to other public libraries within the Province of Ontario.  Authors represented include Margaret Atwood, Maeve Binchy, Khaled Hosseini, Steve Berry, Yann Martel, Carol Shields and Richard Wright. A full list is available on the website or call the library for more details.
