"Understanding Alzheimer's Disease" will be the topic of a free discussion led by Jo O'Brien, Registered Nurse of the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region, on Sept. 5 from 2pm to 3pm at the Victoria Avenue Library. This is the second in our series of presentations to better understand the relationship between our brain and how we interact with our environment. Last month nineteen people attended the first presentation.

The third program in this series will be held Oct. 4 from 2pm to 3pm with the subject "Communication Skills For People With Alzheimer's". You can attend any program even if you missed an earlier one.

Many rely on a variety of library materials to learn more about this disease. Recent novels offer remarkable insights into emotional stories that relate to real life situations. Borrow "The prince of Nantucket" by Jan Goldstein, "Mother's boy" by Stanley Middleton, "Not me" by Michael Lavigne. Listen to the audiobook "The house on Beartown Road: A Memoir of love and courage" by Elizabeth Cohen. View the films "A time to remember", "Quick brown fox: an alzheimer's story". Borrow recent books such as "Alzheimer's activities that stimulate the mind", "A caregiver's guide for Alzheimer and related diseases", "What your doctor may not tell you about Alzheimer's disease : the complete guide to preventing, treating, and coping with memory loss".

Click on "Online Research Tools" on the library's website http://www.nfpl.library.on.ca/ref/ to search authoritative, current health databases for the best electronic information about this disease and others. Click on Niagara Falls Internet links under the Health category to find links to more than thirty Niagara websites about a variety of health subjects.
