Summertime is here – at least according to the calendar it is!
If you have experienced some glitches with our circulation processes this week, be assured everything is under control. We are doing some upgrades to our software, which means we have to shut the computers down. We apologize for any inconvenience, and if you have any concerns, feel free to contact the library. The Internet is not affected.
Our summer hours begin Monday June 29 and continue through Saturday September 5. The Victoria Avenue Library will be open 9am to 8pm on Monday & Tuesday and 9am to 5:30 pm Wednesday through Saturday. The Stamford Branch will be open 10am to 5:30pm Monday to Saturday; and Community Centre Branch will be open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 9am to 5:30pm and Wednesday & Thursday from 9am to 8pm. There are no changes at Chippawa Branch which is open Monday and Tuesday 1 to 8pm; Wednesdays 9am to 5:30pm and Saturdays 10am to 4pm.
Canada Day is an opportunity to gather, in our communities, from coast to coast to coast, and to proudly celebrate the anniversary of the union of provinces under the name of Canada , 141 years ago. It is an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, and appreciate the many precious rights and privileges we enjoy as Canadians. Just as our ancestors came from many different countries, so to on this day we celebrate together with all those who make up our nation today.
Be sure and stop by our library display on July 1 at the City's annual Canada Day celebrations at Optimist Park. Library staff will be on hand with a digital slide show of images of Niagara Falls from our local history collection. We are also featuring a display of some of the F H Leslie postcards in our collection. F H Leslie was a former owner and editor of the Niagara Falls Evening Review, but also had a thriving postcard publishing operation. Many of these postcards are based on original works now part of our collection. Our website offers a direct access link from the Historic Niagara block on our Homepage to more than 20,000 images in our “Historic Niagara Digital Collection”.
All 4 libraries will be closed on Canada Day.
Even when the library is closed, there are book return slots at all libraries. The library website www.nflibrary.ca is available anytime for information, borrower services, and access to the online research databases.
