As the summer season approaches I found some interesting materials about tourism which many residents may wish to visit.

The books Hospitality 2010: the future of hospitality and travel and Managing sustainable tourism : a legacy for the future will be of particular help for those working in the hospitality industry.

Start and run a profitable restaurant from the International Self-Counsel Press serves up a variety of ingredients for success.

We have an online edition of Business plans handbook. This is a compilation of actual business plans developed by small businesses throughout North America and includes restaurants. It is included in the Gale virtual reference library and available online on our library’s website www.nflibrary.ca under online research.

Novels can offer a different insight about the hospitality industry such as the crime novel Tourists are for trapping by Marian Babson and The motel life  by Willy Vlautin .

Scots on the rocks by Mary Daheim is a bed-and-breakfast mystery and Sail by James Patterson and Howard Roughan is about intrigue during a sailing vacation.

Turn up the heat by Jessica Conant-Park & Susan Conant and Soul kitchen by Poppy Z. Brite are novels about restaurants.

Connections by Sheila O'Flanagan is about a diverse group of people who find their lives intertwining while on vacation at a Caribbean resort.

For some laughs borrow the DVD of the 2008 movie What happens in Vegas starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher or Mr. Bean's holiday starring Rowan Atkinson which came out in 2007.

Listen to the music CD Road trip by Girl Authority and see the DVD.

Residents planning a vacation within or outside Canada will discover hundreds of travel books, magazines, DVDs and videos.
