Are you considering training for a new career? Our Library and the Business Education Council Career Planning Service have free information sessions on eligibility, services and funding opportunities.

No registration is required to attend any of the free sessions to be held at the Victoria Avenue Library on March 4 from 10 to 11:30am, March 26 from 2 to 3:30pm, April 8 and April 22 from 10 to 11:30am.

A free two-part resume writing workshop will be held on March 25 and April 1 from 9 to 11:30am at the Victoria Avenue Library for the first 15 people who register by calling 905-356-8080. You will receive a new or updated paper and electronic copy of your resume.

The Library offers this program with the Niagara Falls Job Resource Centre of the Business Education Council and Service Canada Niagara Falls Centre.

The next Philosophers' Cafe at the Victoria Avenue Library is scheduled for March 2nd at 7pm. The theme is "What are Drugs?". It is an informal, open discussion led by Jim Agar for those interested in exploring philosophical questions in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

“Canada Reads” is an annual literary event on CBC Radio One where five celebrity panelists are asked to defend their favourite Canadian works of fiction. Day by day, books are voted off the list, until one panelist triumphs with the book for Canada to read this year. The half-hour debates will air on CBC Radio One from March 2 to 6th at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30p.m.

Featured this year are:

The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill

The Fat Woman Next Door is Pregnant by Michel Tremblay

Fruit by Brian Francis

Mercy Among the Children by David Adams Richards

The Outlander by Gil Adamson

You’ll enjoy listening to the debates whether or not you’ve read the books, but reading them first will add to the fun. Visit www.cbc.ca for regular updates and features on this year’s panelists, books and authors.

Borrow all the books from our library and see the display at the Victoria Avenue Library. Click on “Search Catalogue” on our website www.nflibrary.ca , then “Award Winners and Other Lists” for all the Canada Reads books we have available from past years.
