When the leaves have fallen and there's a chill in the air, you can bet that it's about time to join us for Christmas Open House at the Victoria Avenue Library, and the Stamford, Chippawa and Community Centre branch libraries. Staff have been busy in all locations decorating and putting their creativity to use. Now, each location invites everyone to celebrate the season by stopping by and enjoying some home made goodies, warm apple cider and Christmas punch.
On Saturday, November 28th, from 2 - 4 pm at the Stamford branch, great seasonal tunes will get you in the holiday spirit. Both adults and children will have a chance to be 'crafty', making a Christmas ornament or a unique greeting card to send. Join us on Sunday, November 29 for the Victoria Avenue Library’s annual musical open house. Stop by the LaMarsh Room between 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. for some light refreshments and enjoy the sounds of the holiday season with music by Chime FX, Second Stringers, Silver Tones and our talented library staff.
Chippawa branch will welcome everyone on Monday, December 7th between 6 and 8 pm where again both adults and children will get into the Christmas spirit by making a great gift to take home for the holidays. Finally, the Community Centre branch will create some merriment this season on Saturday, December 12th, between 2 - 4 pm. Local harmony singers, Melodia will perform their Christmas repertoire live as well as The Silvertones, a local ensemble of flutes.. Please call ahead for information and registration on craft-making. See you all at the open house!
We are pleased to host two Book signing events this week. Both take place in the LaMarsh Room at the Victoria Avenue Library. Meet author Linda Bramble as she discusses her latest book: "Niagara’s Wine Visionaries: profiles of the Pioneering Winemakers", Thursday December 3, at 7pm. This is the dramatic story of the people who transformed the Niagara peninsula into the award winning, and recognized international wine-making region it is today.
On Saturday December 5th, from 10:30 to 4, we will have local author Vince Thompson on hand with his graphic novel, “Vinny & Bud”. The book is described as a story mostly of friendship. Bud who is 10 years old moves to a new town for a fresh start. A series of hilarious events begin when he meets Bud and his family. Many of the author’s experiences growing up are used, as Vinny and Bud go from adventure to adventure on their skateboards.
