We are having a very busy summer here at the Library. Our daily visits and circulation numbers are increasing every month. The number of books and DVDs borrowed , both in the adult and children's departments are at all time highs. It is great to be able to report this – we must be doing something right! Pizzareadia Summer Reading Club is in full swing. There are quite a number of “eager” readers who have already completed the program, but it is not too late to get in on the fun. Registration is still open, and there is plenty of summer left to complete the 10 books and get in on the prizes and Pizza party at the end. Visit any one of our branches to get registered. Registration for the second session of “Story time – Learning with Books” is still open while spaces are available. This is a four week program for 3 to 6 year olds and preregistration in person, by telephone or online through our website(www.nflibrary.ca) is required. There is a fee of $3.00. One of the Partner programs we facilitate at our Victoria Avenue location is the Ontario Ministry of Health card clinics. As a result, it is often not necessary to go to the St Catharines office. This has been a problem since the Niagara Falls location was closed, but we have collaborated with the Ministry to act as a hub for our community. OHIP staff use our Conference Room on average twice a month to issue and renew health cards. It is very popular and you will need to to book a date with the Ministry of Health directly through their toll free booking line at 1-888-376-5197. The nomination deadline for the 2009 Niagara Falls Summer Trillium Awards is fast approaching. You can still pick up forms at all Niagara Falls libraries, and make sure your neighbour or friend with the beautiful garden horticultural display is listed with the judging panel. This is part of the Communities in Bloom initiative. And how's this for something different – We have a special display this month of Blue books – that's right, carefully selected by our Head of Reference and Info Services – books with blue covers! You will be amazed.
