Home staging is a topic that is appearing everywhere these days, in magazines, newspapers and on television programs, but what exactly is it? Home staging is today what the home inspection was 20 years ago, and has been common in the real estate markets in the United States and larger Canadian urban centres for years. To put it simply, if you highlight the best features of your home as you are likely to sell faster and get a better return!

Join Mara Snider of New Leaf Designs as she outlines the concepts, what is involved, and how you can benefit from staging your home when trying to sell on April 29 at 7:00pm in the LaMarsh Room of the Victoria Avenue Library. Although this program is free, please call the Library at 905-356-8080 to reserve a seat.

The Library has several new books on this topic including “Hot property: easy home staging to sell your house for more money in any market” by Andrea Newman and “Home staging for dummies” by Christine Rae.

Borrow many other related books such “The Holmes inspection : everything you need to know before you buy or sell your home” by Mike Holmes.

Words of warning are found in “ Greater fool : the troubled future of real estate” by Garth Turner, “Tips and traps for new home owners” by Robert Irwin and “Realty check : real estate secrets for first-time Canadian home buyers” by Sandra Rinomato.

For more optimistic advice borrow “ Making money in real estate : the Canadian guide to profitable investment in residential property” by Douglas Gray, “51 success stories from Canadian real estate investors” by Don R. Campbell and “Flipping houses for Canadians for dummies” by Ralph R. Roberts.

Many have consulted “101 streetsmart condo buying tips for Canadians" by Douglas Gray to avoid the pitfalls, make the right decisions, save money, protect your investment, and find peace of mind.

The Self-Counsel Press series of helpful books include “Sell your home in Canada” and “Buy & sell recreational property in Canada” by Geraldine Santiago.

Consult “The cottage ownership guide : how to buy, sell, rent, share, hand down & retire to your waterfront getaway” by Douglas Hunter.
