As some of you know, the library has an Advantage eBook collection that is available exclusively to our patrons. Now you can find some of these titles listed in our actual catalogue. We have a small but growing “Advantage” collection that you can access through www.nflibrary.ca. When you get the search screen of the catalogue look for the helpful listings of various collections listed in green. On the left side is EBooks. Click it and it will take you to another screen —the second listing on the left is Overdrive Advantage NFPL. Click on this and it will take you to a listing of 38 titles as of this moment. More records are being added all the time. Click on the title you wish to borrow. At the bottom of the record, there is a message that tells you to “Click here to download this title” which brings you to the “Ontario Library Service Download Centre” where you can download your desired title directly to your device. Niagara Falls Public Library already has many other “Advantage” titles that are part of the...

In 2012, Earth Day occurs on a Sunday April 22nd, though many will be celebrating Earth Day all week long and into the weekend. Trees are just budding out, colour is returning to the garden and blossoms are bursting on tree branches. It's time to share some earth friendly picture books with your children.
“The Family Tree” by David McPhail
discusses the history of a tree through many generations of the same family. When the modern world encroaches, the youngest child, with some help from forest animals, tries to save the tree.
“Our Tree named Steve” by Alan Zweibel
is a lyrical story of the importance of a family...

Spring programming is in full swing and that means Saturday crafts. Coming up this Saturday April 14th, Chippawa branch will be offering a “Welcome spring door hanger” at 2pm while at Victoria Avenue we will be making an interesting “Spring” décor sign. Two sessions are available: at 6 10:30 am & 2pm. These activities are geared to age 6 years and up and there is a $2.00 registration fee. Please contact the library in advance to secure a spot. We are in for a treat this week at our Big Screen Tuesday featuring The Iron Lady - the 2011 British biographical film based on the life of Margaret Thatcher, who was the longest serving Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of the 20th century. Thatcher is played by Meryl Streep, who received much acclaim , and earned Best Actress awards at the Golden Globes, the British Film and Television Awards and the Academy Awards. Her ability to re create Maggie Thatcher so believably really makes the film, and she is truly one of the great actors of our time. Regardless...

The presentation for the April 3rd Box Office Tuesday at Chippawa will be the 2011 feature, “The Adventures of Tintin” based on the series of comic albums created by Belgian artist Hergé (Georges Remi). Beginning in 1929, this series was one of the most popular comics (graphic novels) of the 20th century and translated into more than 50 languages. They have been adapted over the years for radio, television, film and theatre and are noteworthy not only for their stories but their satirical, cultural commentary. The library has several of the books available. Tintin is the young, intrepid reporter who along with his faithful dog, Snowy gets involved in adventures and intrigue all over the planet. Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, and Daniel Craig star in this story as they set off on a treasure hunt to locate the lost ship of Captain Haddock’s ancestor. Directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Peter Jackson and with music by John Williams, the film has received generally positive reviews including a Best Animated Feature...
