Please note that the Diabetes awareness program scheduled for Monday October 24th has been cancelled by the presenter, the Canadian Diabetes Association. Plans are to reschedule it for early December. We apologize for any inconvenience. The next in our series of Planning for Retirement Programs will be offered on Tuesday Nov 1st. If you are hoping to retire within the next ten years, this workshop is for you. There is a lot to plan besides the financial side of things. Considerations for physical and mental health, maintaining your independence, looking after each other are a few to ponder. And what to do with your spare time? - Hobbies and volunteerism are also considerations. The session will be offered at the McBain Community Centre in the Community Board Room at 2pm and repeated at the Victoria Avenue Library – LaMarsh Room at 6:30pm. With Thanksgiving over, it would be hard to ignore the next event on the calendar. Super moms are busy sewing and there is candy everywhere. There are two craft sessions offered this coming Saturday October 22nd at the Victoria Avenue Library for ages 6 and up, featuring a “Boo to You Wreath”, perfect for hanging on the door to greet the visitors on Halloween. Registration in person, on-line or by phone is required in advance. For a schedule of all upcoming Children’s programs offered, visit the Kid’s Corner on the library website www.nflibrary.ca or pick up the Just for Kids brochures in any library. Seasonal inserts provide more craft program details. Diabetes is becoming more prevalent in all ages these days. The Canadian Diabetes Association will be presenting a daytime workshop “Diabetes: what you need to know” on Monday October 24th that will of interest to people affected by diabetes themselves or with family members affected. October is Canadian Library Month, and next week October 16th – 22nd is Ontario Public Library Week.
