Monday evening October 26, in the LaMarsh Room we are offering the first of two presentations offering tips for retirement planning and financial security. Lance Wiebe, our speaker for this Financial series is a graduate of the University of Waterloo in Mechanical Engineering. After 20 years in industry, he switched careers and obtained his certification in Financial Planning and diplomas in Canadian Securities, Insurance Licensing and the Certified Senior Advisor designation. City Council has officially proclaimed Oct. 18-24, 2009 Public Library Week in Niagara Falls.The theme this year “Yours to Discover” - gives emphasis to the role the public library plays in encouraging one's sense of discovery and learning in our province. The provincial car licence plate is a natural symbol for the “discovery” enabled through literature, information and technology – all highlights of public library service. Each one of our 4 Niagara Falls libraries provides access to information highway through the Internet. Check-out our library’s popular website www.nflibrary.ca To celebrate we have put together a Scavenger Hunt ballot for each Library, to encourage all visitors to really get to know our libraries. Take a few moments to answer the questions and have a look around the facilities, perhaps “discover” something you did not know before about the services and programs available to all library patrons! To celebrate we have put together a Scavenger Hunt ballot for each Library, to encourage all visitors to really get to know our libraries. Take a few moments to answer the questions and have a look around the facilities, perhaps “discover” something you did not know before about the services and programs available to all library patrons! The ballot is different for each library, so try your knowledge at each you visit. The Niagara Parks Commission has generously provided us with ticket vouchers to their attractions, for the draw winners. It’s a great way to “discover” the beauty of Niagara. We also have some CD ROMs of the “Images of a Century “. A separate draw will be made at each library, on Saturday October 24.

All Branches will be closed for Thanksgiving Day, Monday October 12th. The drop boxes are available when the Library is closed for return of your books and library materials and remember online services are available 24/7. You can access your borrower information, renew materials on loan, browse the new items available in the library and place holds. The databases and search engines are always available for those last minute homework needs, all from the comfort of home! Big Screen Tuesday returns October 13, at 7pm, and stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, in a sequel to Night at the Museum. This film was the first major movie to ever be actually shot at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, and brings to life many of the featured exhibits. October 18 – 24 is Ontario Public Library Week and the Niagara Falls Public Library is celebrating with a scavenger hunt contest to test your knowledge of your local Library. This year’s province wide theme is “Yours to discover”. If you’re one of our regular patrons, here’s your opportunity to show off what you know about the Library. If you haven’t visited us recently, this is a great chance to stop by, learn about our services and possibly win a prize! Prizes include complimentary passes for a family of four to Niagara Parks Commission attractions and heritage sites, as well as copies of the CD-ROM “Images of a Century: Niagara Falls, Canada 1904-2004”. Discover your library and discover Niagara Falls! Visit any of the four Niagara Falls Public Library locations to pick up your scavenger hunt ballot – each Branch is hosting a separate draw. The prizes will be drawn at the conclusion of Public Library Week.
