The Rosberg Gallery is located at the Victoria Avenue Branch of the Niagara Falls Public Library. Dedicated to the memory of Harold David Rosberg and Joseph Lyon Rosberg, businessmen from the City of Niagara Falls, the gallery features a monthly exhibition of visual art from the Niagara Region, as well as, special traveling exhibits. This month we feature the works of St Catharines resident Lillian Asquith, a member of the Toronto Watercolour Society.

Lillian was born in Sarajevo BH. She came to Canada in 1964. During the past 19 years Lillian has studied watercolour painting with many US and Canadian artists. She is known for her vibrant and dramatic use of colours and her work has gained wide recognition. She is a Bronze Signature member of the Toronto Watercolour Society, and her paintings may be found in many public and private collections in Canada, the US and Europe. She is a popular instructor who has conducted workshops throughout Ontario including Niagara Falls, Niagara-On-The-Lake and Oakville.

She is the current treasurer of the Toronto Watercolour Society, Past treasurer of SOYRA and the Niagara Pumphouse Visual Art Centre and current chair of the Parkway Art Guild.

Display case exhibit

The month of May will be devoted to the City of Niagara Falls Summer Trillium Awards which  encourages and promotes outstanding horticultural displays for curb side viewing throughout the City of Niagara Falls. Properties (residential, commercial, multiple residential, places of worship, neighbourhoods and bed & breakfasts) are judged based on the following criteria: principles of design, turf, plants, hardscaping features, unique features and environmental qualities. All properties residing in the City of Niagara Falls are eligible to be nominated for an award. Nomination forms are available at all local libraries, participating garden centres, MacBain Community Centre and online at www.niagarafalls.ca. June 29th is the deadline date for submissions. The Summer Trillium Awards Committee will be judging properties on July 18th, and 19th. Winners will be notified and invited to an ending program awards ceremony that will be hosted by Re/Max representatives Kathy Tsiantoulas and Daniela Mitrovic on Wednesday, September 26th at the Ramada Plaza on Lundy’s Lane.

 Niagara District Art Association

 
 

During the month of June we will be showcasing work done by the Niagara District Art Association. The focus of the exhibit will be the War of 1812. Creations of battle scenes, depictions of historic churches and buildings and of course, the soldiers.

The NDAA was founded in 1945 and is the oldest art association in the Niagara Region. For 67 years with help from the City, the association has promoted Arts and Culture, provided a home for artists to meet, held workshops and group paintings, seminars and has provided a permanent Art Gallery for the public to view local and regional artists year round, free of charge. You can visit their gallery at the Community Resources Centre, 5017 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls.

The Rosberg Gallery is open during regular library hours.
