The Niagara Falls Public Library in conjunction with Canada Revenue Agency and the Institute of Chartered Accountants will again be offering free tax clinics for low income earners. Two clinics are being held. Attendance is by appointment only. Call 905-356-8080, have your income statement handy as our staff will ask some questions to ensure that you are eligible for these programs. Please note that neither of these programs offers cash back on returns.
Canada Revenue Agency Community Volunteer Income Tax Program
Sessions will be held on Monday, March 5 and Monday, March 19, 2012 from 9am – 2:30pm in the LaMarsh Room. Eligibility is limited to: single individuals with annual income of under $25,000 and couples with a combined annual income of $35,000.
Interest earnings must be under $1000. Complex returns including business income, capital gains and foreign pensions are not eligible. Taxpayers will only be able to have 2011 returns completed at these sessions; prior years will not be completed. Institute of Chartered Accountants Program
Sessions are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday evenings throughout February and March. The appointments are 30 minute sessions between the hours of 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Eligibility is limited to those individuals with gross household incomes of less than $20,000 with no dependents or $30,000 with dependents. If two or more individuals in one household are employed, the combined gross household income must not exceed the above limits. Returns will not be processed if there is rental or business income to be reported, nor will returns for prepared for deceased taxpayers. Returns from 2009 and 2010 can be completed but a separate appointment must be made for each additional year.
