General Information
Class size is limited to a maximum of 6, and each participant will have their own workstation. Classes take place in our fully equipped Computer Training Lab.

Location
All classes are held at the Victoria Avenue Library (click for maps & directions).

Payment
Each class costs $10 (tax included). Payment must be made at registration.

Refunds: There are no refunds for cancellation. However, you may register, without charge for another session if cancellation is made with more than 24 hours notice.

Computer basics and Windows

Little or no computer experience needed

  • become familiar with the basic components of a computer
  • learn how to use a mouse
  • learn the Windows XP operating system
  • learn the Windows file structure
  • learn what those funny little pictures called icons do
  • questions answered and practice time included

Word processing basics

For those with a basic understanding of computers and the Windows operating system

  • learn the basic tools of Word 2003
  • learn what all those toolbars are for
  • practice your new skills by reformatting a document
  • questions answered and practice time included

Introduction to the internet

Little or no Internet experience needed but must have a basic understanding of computers and the Windows operating system

  • Receive an introduction to the Internet, how it is structured and how it works
  • become familiar with Internet Explorer
  • understand the concept of hyperlinks and how they make the web possible
  • learn how to do simple searches on the Internet
  • learn about search engines and directories
  • questions answered and practice time included

Introduction to E-mail

For those with a basic understanding of computers, word processing, and the Internet

  • Sign-up for your own account with Hotmail
  • practice composing, sending, forwarding and deleting e-mails
  • become familiar with e-mail terminology, etiquette, and conventions
  • practice sending e-mail with other classmates
  • Learn how to set up an address book

Windows 2 Take it up a notch!

For those who have taken a basic Windows course. Must be able to use a mouse

  • Do a quick recap of some of the features of the basic course
  • Learn about hidden files
  • Become familiar with customizing your desktop
  • Learn various tips and tricks such as tiling windows and creating shortcuts
  • Become familiar with Control Panel and all of its options

Word Processing 2

For those with minimal experience with a word processing program. Must be able to use a mouse.

  • Recall the basic tools of Word 2003
  • Practice new skills and previously learned skills, including selecting and modifying text, cutting and pasting, opening and saving documents
  • Learn how to create and format tables
  • Create numbered lists and sort alphabetically
  • Learn how to insert clipart

Excel for Beginners

For those who have taken a basic Windows course. Must be able to use a mouse.

  • Learn what a spreadsheet is
  • Learn some of the common uses for spreadsheets
  • Become familiar with the Excel 2003 program and its features
  • Build a simple budget spreadsheet
  • Be able to calculate sums
  • Be able to change the look of your spreadsheet
